The client’s desktop-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system provides built-in asset management and inventory management software. Users had to enter data manually to maintain and update records on the inventory management system. This manual data logging process became time-consuming, especially for updating bulk data.

Programmers.io used an Agile approach to build barcode scanning software that automated the data logging.

The team implemented code 39, or “3 of 9,” barcode font in the software. This code format enabled users to employ Bluetooth, USB, and wireless barcode scanners to read codes.

Data Entry Automation

Users easily upload inventory counts with the updated SAP software. The necessary barcodes are scanned using the client's preferred devices, and the information can be added to the database immediately.

Implementing the new scanning system has notably enhanced productivity in inventory entry. With the new barcode scanning software, they input multiple inventory counts and SAP data simultaneously, resulting in a 50% reduction in data entry time.
